Should Kids Have Summer Jobs?

My son has his first ever job interview this weekend. And while a part of me dreads the idea of adding another commute to our family's already-hectic lifestyle, I'm thrilled at the idea of him getting a job.

I hate running. But I love having gone running! One way I fix my motivation hiccup (it's just so much nicer on the couch with tea and books) is with podcasts. When I run, I get to listen to an episode, and that's enough to make me want to lace up my sneakers and head out.

Music in the Classroom, Music at Home

Last night, despite the six inches of wet snow on the roads, I made my way to my oldest son’s high school band concert. It was a regional concert, which meant the middle school band was there, too. You know, one of the best ways to feel good about the world is to watch a group of kids ranging in age from 11 to 18 belt out the "Star-Spangled Banner" with their trumpets, oboes, flutes, snare drums, bells, and other implements of enlightenment.
